F-1 and J-1 Exchange Students

  • Complete the International Engagement Arrival Form as soon as your travel plans are set.
  • You may arrive in the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date on your I-20.
  • Students attempting to arrive prior to the 30 days before the program start date may not be allowed to enter the country at the U.S. border.
  • Late arrivals are handled on individual basis and prior arrangement must be made with the university. You will need to work with the Office of International Engagement if a late arrival is required.
  • F-1 students have a grace period of up to 60 days after the completion of your program to exit the U.S. During this grace period you are allowed to travel within the U.S. and prepare for your departure.
  • J-1 exchange students have a grace period of up to 30 days after the completion of your program to exit the U.S. During this grace period you are allowed to travel within the U.S. and prepare for your departure.
  • When planning your flights, please be aware of the free pick-up window offered by the university. Students arriving outside this window will be required to secure their own travel to campus.  More information here.
