Process for Formally Inviting International Visiting Scholars
If you are interested in bringing an international visiting scholar to the UNI campus, please contact the Office of International Programs ("OIP") secretary Kathleen Sihler at firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-273-6807 three months in advance of your scholar's arrival.
Specific information is required to begin the process of preparing for the scholar's visit. Dean approval is required if any financial commitments are made on behalf of UNI (i.e. honorarium, in-kind services, travel reimbursement). Department Head approval is required if there is no financial commitment. There are possible tax implications for the host department if financial commitments are offered to the scholar. Please discuss this with Kathleen in the early planning stages.
For guidelines and information on the responsibilities please follow the below links.
An online Visitor Registry has been established to streamline the process of inviting international visitors to campus. All mandatory forms can now be completed online. To complete an application, please follow the visitor registry link. Click on the "Apply Now" button to the right of "Host an International Visitor" box and follow the prompts. You will need your UNI user name and pass-phrase to continue. If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen Sihler.
The University of Northern Iowa encourages colleges, departments and faculty members to invite foreign scholars to campus to engage in academic and research collaborations and to teach. Such visits provide the UNI community with a diversity of perspectives, which facilitate the generation of knowledge.
